ICELAND — Searching in photos

photography and journal by Paul Hamill

We drove to Hofn in search of a prime location to photograph Vestrahorn. It wasn't in Hofn, so we decided to head to Stokksnes Lighthouse. We stopped for coffee at the lighthouse cafe, and discovered we were at the Vestrahorn spot — black sandy beach, dunes with tall yellow grass! We even saw a juvenile reindeer.

After Vestrahorn we headed back to Jökulsárlón Lagoon to see the ice that accumulates on the shore. It's amazing how quickly the large icebergs move out to the sea. We watched the sun set over the glacier, and headed back to the hotel. Lobster soup and a green salad with fruit and currants for dinner, then back to Jökulsárlón Lagoon to watch the Northern Lights.
